Potato cake - Perkedel kentang
Cooking time: 15 min. / 30 min.Difficulty: easy
When in Indonesia, there are days, when you have a feeling it would be great to have something else than rice as a side dish for a change. How about these potato cakes? The truth is locals eat them with rice too, but you do not have to :) The recipe is easy, with just a few ingredients and yummy of course.
Nasi goreng ayam - Fried rice with chicken Lombok style
Cooking time: 10 min. / 5 min.Difficulty: easyvideo
If you are asked by someone what is a typical Indonesian dish, nasi goreng, fried rice, will definitely belong to the top of mind. Indonesia consists of thousands of islands and the same amount of various flavors and recipes of nasi goreng you will find across the country. The recipe with kecap manis sauce belonged to my favorites. Especially in a restaurant, where I filmed the recipe. Not only because of its amazing taste and the super nice family running the restaurant, but as the portion was so huge I always recharged the empty batteries after surfing easily.
Stir fried water spinach - Tumis kangkung
Cooking time: 10 min. / 10 min.Difficulty: easy
Fast and easy recipe with just a few ingredients. That`s this Indonesian recipe with water spinach, I learned from Mario from Jawa. If you are sorry, there are no chilies in the recipe, feel free to add as many as you like ;) Locals do both versions spicy and not spicy too.
Dadar jagung - Corn cakes
Cooking time: 20 min. / 6 min.Difficulty: easyvideo
One of my most favorite Indonesian dishes. Great combination of sweet corn with garlic and kaffir lime leaves.
Gado gado - Mung sprouts with peanut sauce
Cooking time: 15 min. / 10 min.Difficulty: easyvideo
In Lombok in Indonesia, they simply love cooking with mung sprouts and water spinach. Really, they are part of at least half of traditional Lombok specials. This time it is gado gado with peanut sauce. You can find so many flavors and recipes of peanut sauce all around Indonesia. The great thing about this one is, that it is very simple, fast, with just a few ingredients used and still soooo delicious :)
Rujak - Fruit and vegetable salad with sweet sauce
Cooking time: 10 min. / 0 min.Difficulty: easy
I love this salad. The one on the picture is made of green mango. But you can use many kinds of other fruit or vegetable and mix all together. The most important is the sauce anyways :) Very common mix in Indonesia is pineapple, watermelon, papaya, daikon, cucumber ..... so no worries and lets experiment ;)
Sambal goreng kacang panjang and mie - Spicy green beans with noodles
Cooking time: 15 min. / 10 min.Difficulty: easyvideo
I always thought, that cooking from instant noodles is a "special" of Western countries with super fast life style and that nobody in Asia would ever touch dish made of them. How wrong I was :). And this dish was not only easy, but really tasty too. This Indonesian recipe is definitely worth trying.
Sambal goreng tempe - Fried tempeh with sweet sauce
Cooking time: 15 min. / 20 min.Difficulty: easy
Sweet variant of fried tempeh. Great and simple Indonesian recipe, which I have learnt on Lombok island from Mario, cool guy from Jawa.
Sate ayam - Chicken satay with peanut sauce
Cooking time: 20 min. / 10 min.Difficulty: easy
This is Indonesian classic. This is literally a meal, that you do not have to go for, it simply "comes" to you itself :) In other words, it is a very common meal sold from "meals on wheels" restaurants. On motorbikes (yes, ardent charcoal included) or manually driven.
